One treasures them like his/her own blood, some grip them with the tightest grasp they can afford. Even when something as great as Tsunami strikes, MONEY is hugged close to the chests of many when escaping. To most human beings, it is an obligatory to possess them. Money is without doubt one of the, if not the most important and authoritative item to us. To many, money sets the standard of individuals they see. We are judged by the volume of money we possess. This eventually causes status discrimination. Those being witnessed splashing tonnes of cash are respected, being treated with the best manners one can find while the poorer ones are looked down, ignored and left out. Money is indeed important, but it shall never overpower one's character and behaviour. We should never judge anyone by money, and constantly remind ourselves of humility.
Anyway, Money is such an item that owns the ability to alter most outcomes of most scenarios. Here are 2 notable scenarios one can find in Malaysia..
Scenario 1: An initial 300 ringgit saman can be turn into a simple 50 ringgit bribe. Bribing is a habit. A deleterious one. The sparkling Anti Rasuah tag just another tag. It stops there. Thou i never had the chance on encountering potential bribing scenes, yet, through my friends, its just a 'wind down the window, fluff the green note and off you go' routine. Again turning to the US. My cousin was driving me around and he stopped on a carpark box for the disables. A policewoman immediately charge up. She flashes out a 300 dollar summon and it doesn't end there. She counseled my remorseful cousin for 5 minutes, telling him the consequences of doing so.
Scenario 2: An initial 10 years in jail can be just erased off with.. hmm.. six figures of ringgit? Dear oh Malaysia. We had seen enough of ministers, high profile VIPs escaping time behind the bars. When will money and status stop doing their work of wonders?
