Permatang Pauh =)

Permatang Pauh. Its the most talked-about constituency since Wan Azizah stepped down and give way for her husband, Mr Anwar Ibrahim to contest for the MP post. Penang Chief Minister Mr Lim Guan Eng once quoted that if Anwar wins, its not only the MP post that will be obtained, but also the entire federal government. This had certainly spiced up the prospect of a intensified-contested by-election. High profile politicians from both BN and PR had jammed the entire constituency for ceramahs, goodies-giving ceremony, meet-the-poor sessions and etc. Permatang Pauh residents were given utmost priority and for the 1st time in their lives, they are treated like kings and queens who would eventually decide the future of our very country.
But as the by-election draws nearer, highly controversial issues and scenarios took placed. Self-proclaimed-sodomized Mr Saiful took center stage when swearing on the Quran. The swearing was well timed. It was just before the nomination day of the by-election. Besides that, this entire sodomization case could be read daily without fail in major newspapers. But do you, newspaper readers have any idea where Mr Bala, who made the 2 statutory declaration is? Is freedom of speech and freedom of press publication being practiced? And again, how many more Ministers would escape time behind bars for the wrong-doings of theirs?
Moving on, it was the DNA bill. The bill was proposed in 2001 and again, it was perfectly timed. The bill was passed just when Mr Anwar was accused of sodomizing Mr Saiful.
Selangor Menteri Besar Mr Khalid Ibrahim also got himself into hot water. He proposed that 10 percent of the intakes at UiTM to be allocated for non-bumis and foreigners. This was greeted with dissatisfaction and unhappiness among bumis within the few UiTM campus. The demonstrations held were highly suspected to be politically-motivated. I would say non-bumis are discriminated and hugely sidelined if the 10percent allocation is said to be too much. Further brain-drain would occur with the existence of such narrow-minded and selfish people who protested against the 10percent proposal.
Its said that with the Malay votes swinging equally between BN and PR, the non-Malays will ultimately decide the outcome of this by-election. This UiTM issue would certainly benefit PR and no matter how many millions are allocated to chinese schools in the constituency, non-Malays are smart to achknowledge which party had been racist and not practicing democracy.
To Permatang Pauh residents, have you realize that mega-projects within your very state had been called off after PR took over the state? Have you realize that just miles across, towards the East Coast, exco members of the Terengganu government are cruising on Mercedes Benz?
26/08/08. Lets hope for the better.
